ABOUT SINTRA

Sintra's lush wooded heights and verdant charms invite one to take a ride on a horse-pulled carriage, and gaze at the marvelous manor-houses, located within the grounds of century old farms

The magic of its natural scenery and poetic ambience, once referred by Lord Byron as the “Glorious Eden”, Sintra is a major tourist attraction.

Classified by UNESCO as World Heritage Site and Cultural Landscape during the 19th Session of the UNESCO Committee which took place on 6th December 1995, Sintra is one of those magic places where nature and man combined in a perfect symbiosis, as if they wanted to surprise us and fill us with emotion in the beauty of their work.

The magic of the natural scenery and the memory of Man’s passage through Sintra, the mysterious mists, the play of water and greenery, result in a unique poetic ambience that makes Sintra a place that inspires art.

For all this, the pure air, the hospitality of the people, the healthy Atlantic beaches, and the lively and plenteous culture, Sintra still is, as was considered by Robert Southey at the end of the 18th century, “the most blessed place of all the inhabitable world”.
