We face the difficulties and challenges in any public broadcaster in the world and we are now making our best efforts to search for the idealization and accomplishment of the ideas.
Myself, I have been engaged in the management of the commercial corporation in the past, more than fifty years, and two years ago approximately, I became the President of NHK. Ever since then I have been telling explicitly that there are things we must change and there are things that we must not change and that has to be differentiated clearly.
The change of the period and the demand of the period would ask us to make the change and to make the reform. One of the reforms that I have been working on is to let the employees to broaden their perspectives and have more different experiences through personnel reshuffles. It seems that the employees of our company or the corporation tend to focus on their own function. It is necessary to have the communication and networking in cross divisionally. We hope that we will be able to invigorate the organization through these efforts. It will take time to make judgment whether or not what I intend to implement in our organization is going to be effective. But since I came into the broadcasting world from outsider, I have embarked on a reform, feeling a strong need to grow broadcasting people and broadcasting culture with much wider perspectives.
On the other hand there are things we must not change. To the viewers and to the audience, we have to do our best efforts wholeheartedly to provide them with the best quality broadcasting. That is something we must not change. We continue to broadcast the high profile programs. And because Japan is vulnerable to natural disasters, it is necessary to reinforce the broadcasting of emergency disaster news. We hope that we will be able to place the news as one of the important pillars. And our backbone of public broadcasters are impartiality, independence and autonomy. This is the indispensable requirement as the freedom of the press. This is something which cannot be changed in order to continue to gain confidence from the viewers.
No matter where in the world we are, we hope that we will be able to discuss things we should change, things we must not change so that we will be able to have the clear vision on the universal value of the public broadcasting.
